The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2018

New York City

“Ancient Egypt” class – field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City December 2, 2018.

Teaching “Ancient Egypt” is always wonderful, with an excellent textbook, informative readings, delightful primary sources, and PowerPoint presentations filled with images culled from museum websites around the world.

But the world of Ancient Egypt truly comes alive with a visit to a major Egyptian collection at the Met.

Many thanks to Niv Allon, assistant curator of Egyptian Art, for joining us for a portion of our visit, especially as he guided us through the special exhibition, “Nedjemankh and His Gilded Coffin,” with expert explanation.

The Met has been a leader in the museum world in placing images of so many objects in its collection online. For the Egyptian galleries, see here: https://www.metmuseum.org/…/curatorial-departm…/egyptian-art
