Required of all Jewish Studies majors and minors.

Explore how modernity shaped Jewish life in Europe and the Americas from the sixteenth century through the mid-1930s. Learn about the consequences of the Spanish Inquisition, Jews’ political emancipation, the birth of Reform Judaism, modern anti-Semitism, the impact of World War I and Jewish life on the eve of World War II. This course will pay special attention to regional diversity and questions of gender.
