New Self Reporting system for student absences

The new system asks students to take responsibility for reporting their health and other emergency absences.  It then generates email notices to faculty teaching these students.  You will receive these emails automatically

Please place on your course syllabi and websites the student link ( and tell your students that you expect them to report absences through this system.

Here is a sample paragraph for syllabi:

Students are expected to attend all classes; if you expect to miss one or two classes, please use the University absence reporting website to indicate the date and reason for your absence.  An email is automatically sent to me. Please note:  My policy for missed labs and missed exams is...[individual professor's policy, or department policy]

As always, faculty are free to determine their own attendance policies and exam make-up policies. We recommend that you keep attendance. In the event that students do not perform well and contest their grade, it is good to have a record of their attendance and performance.
