Vanishing Traces of Jewish Galicia in Present-Day Ukraine

The Synagogue of Stryi The Synagogue of Stryi
Sunday, October 14, 2007
The Raoul Wallenberg Annual Program
Supported by the Leon and Toby Cooperman Fund

Speaker: Omer Bartov, Brown University

Location: Trayes B, Douglass College Center
Time: 7:00 PM

What had started for Omer Bartov as a deeply personal chronicle of the Holocaust in his mother’s hometown of Buchach in former Eastern Galicia, turned into a journey across the region and back through history. Bartov uncovered the rapidly disappearing vestiges of the Jews of western Ukraine who were murdered by the Nazis during World War II with help from the local populace. Bartov’s talk will draw on his forthcoming book (by the same title, due out in Fall 2007), revealing the complete erasure of the Jews from public memory.

Please RSVP by October 5.
