Independent Study and Internships

Independent Study

Students can pursue an independent study project beyond the Department's regular course offerings with a faculty member who has expertise in the student's area of interest. An independent study should be the equivalent of a one-semester course and can include guided research or fieldwork along with directed reading. A research paper or written report is required for all independent study projects. An independent study project is subject to the approval of the Department's Undergraduate Advisor.

Internship

  Available Internships

Students can pursue an independent research project while working in a Jewish public cultural or social institution as a supervised intern. Students will be expected to work 8 hours per week during the semester (i.e., 112 hours), or its equivalent in a summer internship. Students' pre-approval by both the Department and the host institution is required. In addition to their internship hours, students are required to prepare a report, paper, or other project related to the nature of the internship, working with a faculty advisor with the approval of the Department's Undergraduate Advisor. Internships are open only to juniors or seniors who have officially declared a major or minor in Jewish Studies. For more information on Jewish Studies internships, contact the Department's Undergraduate Advisor.
