Honors and Awards
Departmental Honors Program
The honors program offers qualified Jewish Studies majors the opportunity to pursue a research
project in depth for their entire senior year under the supervision of a faculty advisor. To be considered, students
must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and 3.4 or better in Jewish Studies courses. Jewish Studies
majors who wish to pursue an honors project should meet with the Department's Undergraduate Advisor
during the second term of their junior year in order to select an advisor, to plan their project, and to
submit the formal application to the Department's office by the end of their junior year. Approval of the
honors project is required for admission to the honors program. Students enroll in Jewish Studies honors
courses during their senior year (563:496 and 563:497; 3 credits each), and upon the completion of their honors
project must pass an oral examination given by their advisor and a second reader.
Student Awards
Jewish Studies majors and minors who wish to be considered for scholarly awards should obtain the appropriate
forms from the Department's office and submit their applications by the deadline advertised by the Department
during the Spring term. To be eligible for an award, the student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring or
minoring in Jewish Studies. Preference is given to students who have a sustained record of achievement in Jewish Studies.
Students must apply to be
considered for these one-time monetary awards, all of which are based on academic merit.
